If you’re trying to infuse new energy into your next event, it may come down to a simple shift: changing the environment.
A new guide we’ve just launched at Skift Meetings, created in partnership with Louisville Tourism, looks at how planners are moving beyond traditional session formats — using Bourbon City’s compact downtown and local partnerships to rethink where and how meetings take place.
One prime example: During PCMA’s EduCon 2025, attendees participated in a compassionate leadership workshop at the Muhammad Ali Center and a mental performance coaching session at the Louisville Slugger Museum & Factory.
“These weren’t social add-ons. They were learning environments designed to push attendees outside the traditional meeting room. When you physically change the environment, you change the conversation,” said Zack Davis, vice president of destination services at Louisville Tourism.
That shift extends beyond education. It’s also about experiencing bourbon-led programming, seeing horses round the final turn at Churchill Downs, and introducing attendees to local artists and craftspeople — all in a city where affordability gives planners more room to experiment.
