The Black Hole Movie Trailer from Girl Scouts at the Apple Store Youtube AMI Studios

Baby Girl participates in her schools daisy program, and this week the daisy leaders put together an awesome Field Trip to the Apple store. There the Daisy's we introduced to iMovie, the apple app that let's you easily make movies at home.

The girls selected the SCARY trailer theme as there template for making a movie trailer. The girls were divided into a few groups of 3-4 Daisy's and they were able to be the writers and directors of their trailers!

THE RESULTS

The Black Hole Movie Trailer from Girl Scouts at the Apple Store

Youtube AMI Studios

A professional looking trailer to their movie concept: The Black Hole.

I will admit some of the snippets are "scary." The girls lay on the ground like they are dead. They're are scary moments and sound effects, and even a zombie like moment when a friend comes back to life. These girls were creative!

Once upon a time I wrote a post about children and "Safe Fear." I think it is a part of our animal instinct to occasionally be afraid, and even like getting scared. These scary moments let our brain explore fear and "what would I do" in that situation. So while the ideas these girls explored and filmed are scary, we are okay with that, because this is how we start to learn about fear. Find the link to that post Safe Fear Versus Real Fear here.

The youtube blurb we typed up covers the logistics of what we were doing ... see below. We highly recommend the Apple Store Sessions where you can explore apple apps, and products. You can sign up your family, girl scout troop, and it's a FREE SERVICE. You can't beat that.

We did not get paid to make this endorsement, but we really think this is an amazing service!  Contact your apple store or visit apple.com/today

More about making the You Tube Video

We wrote a brief introduction to what the clip is about, especially since it is a new type of content on our channel. We also recommended the Apple Store service. Lastly, we closed with Baby Girl cool closing line. Yes, all edited and created in iMovie.

The Black Hole Movie Trailer From Girl Scouts at the Apple Store

" A little something new for our channel this week. Baby girl attended an Apple Store Session with her Daisy Girls Scouts. The girls were divided into groups and they each made their own iMovie trailer. Yes, super easy, and yes, each girls crew was very creative. The girls selected the SCARY movie trailer from the templates available in iMovie. Don't be alarmed at the scary themes. Kids are totally capable of having ideas about the scary things that can happen in the world. Kids exploring these ideas I call “safe fear” and we wrote a post about it here about "Safe Fear Vs Real Fear “Are You Sure About That Blog” our blogspot page on blogger: https://areyousureaboutthatblog.blogs... This was a field trip our awesome daisy leaders planned, but you too can make your own trailer or get support for ANY apple services with apple sessions apple.com/today or by visiting your apple store, and we highly recommend it! A great experience all around. And now our feature presentation: Apple Store Sessions Daisy Girls Scouts Make a SCARY iMovie Trailer THE BLACK HOLE "

Mom Puh-lease can I have a YouTube Channel

My darling little lady has been documenting her life in videos. Hours of them. As a marketer, I can say this girl has millions of ideas to build content. So I am breaking. I am going to help her build her channel.

Are You Sure About That Blog, and as the @Minstr0Interior on twitter,

.... We Announce .... We Have A family You Tube Channel

We have been linking some of our posts on Twitter. And now we are adding a video channel. Happy viewing. Enjoy the clips, or not. We will see you this project turns out. The boys love bothering their sister with silly-ness. You will see that here, as well as the fun they have.

Mom puh-lease can I have a YouTube Channel?

Now that we have hundreds of hours of video content to choose from, what's next. Baby girl filmed her clips using moms old iPhone 4 - so on some the shot is a little narrow. We are getting better at remembering to turn our phone sideways for a better view. Mommy is getting better with iMovie, in order to make these videos a little more enjoyable and better quality. She is enjoying other channels and also loves watching our family clips on mom's phone.

Be sure to subscribe so you know when a new video posts. And thanks for watching, even a 'lil.

Found a cicada Shell. It's gonna get loud around here.
Mom - What is That Video?

So mom has some interesting videos from our trips. We love road trips around the US, and there is so much to see locally. We include some of these fun bits here.

Thanks for watching, enjoy the ride.

You learn as you go

You learn as you go.

My older son is now 7 and I have come to realize some mistakes I've made in raising him.

When I wrote the blog below on a schedule for toddlers, I was very proud of the fact that I limited his TV tube time. He actually didnt watch any TV or kids videos until he was almost 3. This was before iPhone an IPad too. And now I realize that was a big mistake.

Routine keep me sane!

See our family routine in this post. And the original MIMIT KIDS TV SCHEDULE Routine post here. And more ponderings on the schedule here.

Our youngest son did get some TV before age 2, mostly watching along side his brothers TV/tube time. So the youngest had early exposure to television.

Nowadays when my kids do get to watch TV for Friday movie night or cartoons on Saturday morning, the older one is completely plugged in (or zoned out). While the 3 year old can tune in and out to come get a drink from the kitchen and even gets bored with the shows.

If I had to do it all again, I'd follow our new routine.

After we drop off the older one at school, my younger kids get 1 (one) hour of TV in the morning (which is public television cartoons like sesame street) without those commercials that are so awesome for kids who react with "I want that!" This way the kids get to relax and enjoy some TV time before we move on with our daily activities.  There is still almost no TV during the school week for the older one, except one 1/2 hour program (our play on the iPad) after homework and responsibilities are complete.

Kids new that time to unwind, or wake up. And just like adults need to zone out sometimes, so do kids.

Dont Be a Perfect Mom (or Dad or Guardian), Your Screwing Up Your KidsFuture!

Back when I was planning my older sons 8th birthday I blogged about the ease (and pain) that comes along with making memorable birthdays. Which "memorable birthdays" could be a post all their own. I do t think our parents generation put that much pressure on themselves "making" a great day beyond friends and cake.

So as I logged the days successes and failures I realized that being "the Perfect Mom" who doesn't make mistakes is screwing up our kids! Where in life is there continual perfection? Of course there are the perfect blooms in flowers and amazing perfect sunsets. But is everyday that way? Doesn't the flower wilt? Isn't there smog or clouds to hide the setting sun? And so goes parenting.

My closing thoughts from that blog post highlight the need for lack of perfection as a mom and dad. We pick up here after the days review of what went well in planning my sons birthday experience, and didn't go so well with near HUGE errors... When it hit me:

"But then I was thinking, it's a good thing that I screw up

Not such terrible screw ups, to completely ruin the day, but it's also not the perfection that the "Facebook pictures" or pinterest make it seem to be. Because one day my sons will want to find a partner in life, and if boys look for girls similar to their moms, I CAN'T be "perfect" because then he will never get married!?! What things will she need to perfectly do for him? Never burn his food? Never miss buying a gift? Always ironing clothes and making elegant bento box lunches? Who is perfect?

And do I want a perfect Daughter-in-Law? No thank you. I do not want Barbie figure, Martha Stewart cookin, Nanny Jo rearing at my house! I want her to be normal. Not high maintenance perfection.
(Even Martha Stewart has a "team" helping her along the crafty way.)

It's healthier ti live in reality, to laugh at her Making Mistakes that will be on the road of life, and more importantly to learn from them. I want her to Laugh.Out.Loud. & to be honest to herself and him when things go crazy.... And things will go wrong,... they have to, because that's Life.  Forks in the road are everywhere, she will beed to have some coping skills to deal with it if my son will have sanity in his life. Hopefully the partner t-he-y marries stays calm at a dilemma and can see an adventure instead, an opportunity for trying something new, and not a pitch fork!

I admit that I mess with my own kids for this very reason: Life doesn't always go the way we want. And when it doesn't I don't get to just freak out, scream, cry, blame them, rant or rave. They are watching - intentionally or not - to see how mom handles that life challenge/dilemma. And hopefully when the time comes I have set enough good examples that the boys will pick a girl who adjusts easily.

On our growing up journey, I'm continually being honest with the boys
1. because that helps build their character
2. they won't say I lied to them while they were growing up
3. and I'm praying my honesty will lead to less "mom you screwed me up because..."

So ladies (and dads striving at perfection, this applies to us all) Don't Do It! Don't be the perfect mom. Daughter-in-Law's thank me later.

The days are long the years are short. Make mistakes." A lot of mistakes.

Poem: Decorating with Things I Find

Yes, my kids fall asleep in the car when we drive back from an activity or errand. So I would let them sleep. They loved it. My grandma would ALWAYS COMPLAIN, how uncomfortable, how miserable for the kids. Move them to their bed.

As a kid who grew up on the road I loved sleeping in the car. I still do. The movement and motion of the road makes a great napping. So I wouldn't transfer the kids, unless I had to. And in time I discovered driving around and letting the kids sleep was not uncomfortable, miserable, or making them unhappy.

When driving around I saw first hand the first world benefit we have, and our neighbors, where having an excess of items and being able to throw good, quality things away.

No photos here... just some thoughts on the trash.

POEM // DECORATING WITH THINGS I FIND

I Listed things I found,
In the neighborhood when driving around.
My kids would nap in the car,
Why should I wake their dreams from afar.

An antique table, who's trim can be fixed in a breeze,
a little glue could allow this table to hold my keys.

An entire play lot for my kids,
a slide, a hut and tunnel in it.

Kitchen chairs made of solid wood,
found by my uncle in the hood.

Even a pair of jeans once owned,
were thrown out, forgotten, alone.

Dumpster diving is a skill,
one that I do not do well.

However this excess that we have,
throw it out, by a new one instead.

Plastic is cheap, a small price to pay,
for the convenience of instant replacement to stay.

The value of quality, workmanship and expertise,
I feel is lost. But not in my home,
not to be tossed.

Out out out in the cold.
A new couch, a rug, a lamp,
from the home.
