What happens when a destination is committed to embracing DEI, but political leaders stand in the way?

Despite being held in Florida, a state that has enacted controversial laws, it is the association's largest convention to date.   Convention participants have been able to take action first-hand, with a campaign led by Tampa's openly LGBTQ Mayor Jane Castor that encouraged attendees to show up and volunteer to support local organizations.   There was plenty of conversation about DEI at the convention. A quick glance at the agenda shows that it remains a hot topic. DI itself publically made the shift from EDI to social inclusion in February.   While the meetings industry has rallied against travel boycotts, the reality is that tough discussions are happening in boardrooms. Many organizations will think twice about inviting their staff and/or members to a part of the world where they may not feel welcome.   But this is by no means a simple issue.
