A Beach Outing And impromtu Bug Collection - The Insect results

After our wonderful morning, where just baby girl and I enjoyed the beach, and found and impromptu bug hunt, I am happy To report the bug count. We should taken estimates at home for some math fun :-/ next time. It turns out this bottom full of bugs yielded a count of 198. Most we card point pinned using the rest of my plain stainless steel pins. Those even ran out and I did have to use my good bug 002 pins. I just did t want to Run out before summer collection season is over.

These photos show the 198 before they have been sorted by species (color and size sorting). That'll help when i need to create all their labels. In the 2013 bug collection season I made the mistake of waiting until the end of the season to print all my labels - never again!!

LIFE IS STILL EXCITING AT OUR HOUSE!
With more insects. . .

AMI Studios Chicago

It's mostly baby girls videos and here slime making, she spends time with friends, goes on road trips, lots of coloring activities and make good choices while having fun. During the covid stay at home orders - she had many many many facetime pandemic playdates - we made time work for us and not be bored.

Sorting the bugs and the 3 labels was painstaking.

We found a dozen true bugs (TBD), including the giant green one, last bugs big and small, ground beetles, cucumber beetles (a variety of species), flying ants and Mosquitos and a few beetles which I have yet to identify. That same week my mom asked if I'd catch (the June Bug) and release. I said that the bug world is in immeasurable volumes. Granted this find was all dead, however 2 live ones must've woken up by the time we arrived home. I will still conduct some live bug catching this year, and this bug cemetery find - which was about 2 feet x 3 feet of beach under driftwood - proves to me how enormous the insect world truly is!!

Luckily I think for this batch, only the Order / specimen labels will be unique as the location label will be identical for the bunch. Before this weekends bug find our collection peaked at 205 insect specimens. In one 1/2 hour of collecting on the Indiana Dunes Beach we nearly doubled our collection size!!! The balance was filled in by a few bugs found in Babcias house (2 june bugs, spiders, lightning bug, and 2 flies, officially doubling our collection). This is how we have a fast Beach Outing AND impromtu Bug Collection - thansk for letting us share Insect results

Now, I need to hint for a bug collection permanent box solution, since the size 002 pins don't fit my original Ferraro Roche clear boxes (from the last two years collecting).

It was a wonderful Memorial Day weekend - the bugs were just a bonus.

make mistakes, breath and laugh out loud.
